The Google Nexus 360 concept - A smartphone that attaches to your wrist

Google Nexus 360 concept represents search engine's giant attempt at recreating a fully flexing smartphone in real life. But is this truly possible?

Google Nexus devices are known for their snappiness and performance, managing to impose themselves both on the smartphone and tablet segments. They are affordable and come with a set of features which enable users to run the latest games and apps with no lag. Furthermore, battery life also exceeds the majority of "smart" devices on the market, users being able to comfortably get few days of medium utilization from a Google Nexus smartphone. However, the company is recently preparing a big surprise to its users: the Google Nexus 360 concept; a smartphone which can attach through one's wrists through a simple fold, but which returns back to its normal smartphone state when expanded.

More than a Sci-Fi concept

Google has been working on some truly interesting projects as of lately, including the renowned Google Glass or the self-driving car (both which are currently in beta phase). Therefore, a futuristic type of smartphone is something that we are more than likely to see from Google, even if not on the exact form which is currently "advertised" on the Internet. LG has already invented the G Flex model, a 6.0-inch smartphone which is slightly U-shaped by default for the purpose of following humans' face contour. When a decent amount of pressure is applied to this device, it can flatten out and thus appear to be a regular smartphone. However, when the pressure is gone, the device returns to its normal state, and all that without suffering any kind of damage. Therefore, if LG was able to invent such smartphone, why would Google not be able to create a device which flexes completely to the point where you can attach to your wrist?

More than a smartwatch

When watching the Google Nexus 360 in full folded state, one can easily jump to the conclusion that it's a smartwatch. However, Google doesn't intend to come up with something like that - instead they want to create a fully functional smartphone which returns to normal once users remove it from their wrist. When in flexed state though, the Google Nexus 360 should behave like any other smartwatch on the market, showing users the current time, date, received messages and any other important notifications they would like to know. However, when removed from the wrist, the device becomes a full-fledged smartphone, enabling users to make calls, play high-resolution games, browse through Internet or watch YouTube videos.

Plenty of practical benefits

Currently, one of the most popular devices which comes with a certified smartwatch accessory is Samsung Galaxy S5. This is as far as technology has evolved to date, with users being able to be as far away as 10 meters from the device while still receiving important notifications on the smartwatch and even being able to answer calls (a pair of headphones is needed in this regard). The smartwatch even comes with its own back camera which enables users to capture 1.3MP snaps on-the-go, even in wet environments (the smartwatch can withstand 1-meter water depths for up to 30 minutes). However, Google takes this concept a step further and provides users with a schema for a 2-in-1 device: one which behaves both as a smartphone as well as a smartwatch. With a simple twist, users should be able to fold the Google Nexus 360 by up to a complete O-form, case in which it could attach to most people' wrists with no hassle.

Google Nexus 360 eliminates the need for carrying 2 devices around at the same time by providing a full flexing design. When we don't use smartphones to make calls, most of us simply check the time or important notifications on these devices from time to time. Google understood this and provided users with a concept which will certainly gather millions of fans if it comes to life. People would no longer have to get the smartphones out of their pocket only to check time, recent messages or e-mails, since when not in call use the Google Nexus 360 can be quickly folded to its smartwatch state.

Summary - It's not impossible to witness such device in future years

Although most people would regard this device as nothing more than a Sci-Fi invention after looking at the photos, technology proves that it is not impossible to create devices that no one would expect to see on the market. LG G Flex and Samsung Galaxy S5 are only two examples in this regard, but it's to be remembered that even the Tractor Beam from Star Wars was replicated by scientists in real life (though only in water and currently with limited use). Therefore, Google and Android fans can only hope that the company will release Google Nexus 360 in fully-functional state, along with some truly "smart" features such as a waterproof case, a heart monitor or a calorie-burn tracker.
